Newshub reports that the lightweight title eliminator is tentatively scheduled to take place from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, although it may be moved to 'Fight Island' in July, if the Kiwi isn't granted entry into the United States.

It's been reported that both Hooker and Poirier have verbally agreed to the main event fight, with contracts set to be signed in the coming days.

Poirier and Hooker were originally scheduled to meet at UFC Fight Night 175 earlier this month in San Diego before widespread COVID-19 restrictions forced the promotion to cancel the event entirely.

Poirier accepted Hooker's challenge back in February.

After the Hangman's win over Paul Felder catapulted him into the UFC Lightweight division top-five, Poirier appeared to informally accept his challenge on Twitter.

Poirier, ranked No.3 in the lightweight division, is coming off a stoppage loss against champion Khabib Nurmagomedov last September, but has won nine of his last 11 fights.

'The Diamond' had been campaigning for a showdown with Irish star Conor McGregor, but 'The Notorious' is reportedly set for a third fight against Nate Diaz. 

A win for Hooker (No.5) will propel 'The Hangman' into automatic title contention and a probable championship tilt against the winner of Nurmagomedov and American Justin Gaethje, who are scheduled to do battle later in the year.
