Onehunga Showdown just days away

A number of big names will step into the square circle this weekend, including MMA fighter Reuben de Jong and Warrior Wrestling coach and NJPW star Henare. Images: Warrior Wrestling Facebook.

Some of the biggest names in both New Zealand and international wrestling are set to put a wrestling show like never seen before in New Zealand.

Pat Schisk & Jordan Wright team up to take on Charlie Roberts & Spencer Southam this Saturday at the Sir William Jordan Leisure Centre for Onehunga Showdown.

TK Cooper is teaming up with Dave O'Connor to take on Henare and Jamie Tagataese.

These names are well known in the wrestling world. Schisk, Roberts, Cooper, O'Connor and Tagataese currenty wrestle for IPW in Auckland.

Reuben de Jong will also be stepping into the ring this Saturday,

de Jong is a New Zealand heavyweight kickboxer, mixed martial artist, strongman and professional wrestler of Dutch descent.

He is a two-time professional strongman champion of New Zealand and competed in the K-1 Kings of Oceania in 2006 and 2007.

Onehunga Showdown is the first official show hosted by Warrior Wrestling.

But what is Onehunga Showdown?

It will be hard hitting wrestling event with no fancy fake personalities and drama - just raw athleticism and competitive matches.

Aaron Henare, who is the head coach and co-founder of Warrior Wrestling, says people can expect to see the emergence of the new age, the new style of wrestling in New Zealand

Henare is signed to wrestle with New Japan Pro Wrestling. He and Ant Khan formed the Auckland-based wrestling school earlier this year. Read more here.

As well as some big names in the industry, Henare says "we’ll also see the debut of a few new young up and comers wanting to make their mark on NZ wrestling".

Onehunga Showdown will be at Onehunga Sir William Jordan Rec at 6.30pm on October 24.
