Timaru's Vendetta is back in 2020 with a fight card loaded with elite talent. The event will take place at the Southern Trust Event Centre on Saturday, November 28, with the first fight at 6pm.
Vendetta - Queens of Muay Thai will be live-streamed on Fight News for a PPV cost of $20. Register here for online access.
The event hosts an eight-woman full Thai rules tournament to crown the Queen of Muay Thai at 63.5kg in New Zealand, featuring some of the best fighters in the country. The winner will not only take the title, but a $5000 purse.
All fights on the card will take place fully-hydrated; that is to say that fighters will compete at their natural weights, with no water-cutting allowed.
Eight-Woman Full Thai Rules Tournament
The eight women to compete for the NZ Queen of Muay Thai title are as follows:
Melissa Mackey-Huriwai - ROA Gisborne
Melody "Diva" Downs - Team Downs Gym/Core MMA Hamilton
Miriam "Hummingbird" Tio Lenzen - Whakatane Fight Club
Melissa Dykes - The Martial Arts Academy Tauranga
Mackenzie Jean - The Combat Centre Auckland
Asher "Bang Bang" Bennie - Lucky 9 Gym Timaru
Gentiane "AAA" Lupi - Alpha Muay Thai Porirua
Nicola Callander - Urban Sport Northshore, Auckland
Only one can be Queen! The draw for the tournament will take place at the weigh-in on November 27, with the fighters having some say in which bracket they will be in, based on whose names are drawn first out of the hat. Each fight will be contested over three three-minute rounds.
TITLE FIGHTS
Additionally, there are three other New Zealand titles being contested, sanctioned by the Aotearoa Muay Thai Association (AMTA):
AMTA Elite Class Super Heavyweight New Zealand Title
Two titans clash in this open weight title fight. Both men are multiple title-holders and veterans in the game. MTC's David Bendall meets SMAC's Moe Hussain in the 95kg+ bracket for a New Zealand title over five three-minute rounds.
AMTA A-Class Super Light Heavyweight New Zealand Title
Fresh off his ISKA title win at King of Kings 9, MTC's Matt Sutherland returns to take on aggressive striker Swade Wallace of Assassin's Muay Thai. Wallace defeated CKB's James Vake at Art of War 13 on 13 November, stepping back in two weeks later for a New Zealand title at 82.6kg.
AMTA Youth Flyweight New Zealand Title
Fern Nixon of ROC Taupo will take on Ashley Nesbitt from City Kickboxing for a 49kg New Zealand title over five two-minute rounds.
UNDERCARD
If four titles weren't enough, the undercard promises to be fire also.
Diego Beneduzzi (Fight Science Queenstown) vs Zen "Waffle" Neethling (MTI Wellington) - Pro Muay Thai, 76.2kg, 5x3min
Sammy Salanoa (The Combat Centre Auckland) vs "Cyclone" Izzy Atkinson (Lucky 9 Gym Timaru) - AMTA 4-14yo Class, 36kg, 3x1.5min
