A man has been sentenced to home detention after admitting to punching a young MMA fighter in the head three times.

Fau Vake, a City Kickboxing fighter, died in Auckland City Hospital on May 23 after being assaulted a week prior.

Vake was hospitalised after a brawl erupted on Symonds Street at about 3am on Sunday, May 16.

Four men were arrested following a police investigation into the attack.

RNZ reports that Ofa He Mooni Folau is one of the men arrested in relation to Vake's death.

During a court appearance this week, Folau, who is not alleged to have been responsible for Vake's death, plead guilty to two charges of assaulting with intent to injure.

The remaining three men charged have interim name suppression and will go to trial next year.

RNZ reports that one is facing a manslaughter charge.

Givealittle page is in place to help Vake’s family during this time.
